About Us

Thunder Bay Productions was formed in 1992 by Gary Mitchell, President and owner of the company. During a career transition Mitchell drove a Ready Mixed Concrete Truck for Rinker Materials at the Disney World Plant in Orlando, Florida. In the face of a recession and driver layoffs, Rinker management encouraged Mitchell to go into video production safety training because of his background in television news as an anchor-reporter. Mitchell expressed a keen desire to help upgrade Rinker Materials Ready Mixed Concrete Driver, Cement Plant, and Surface Mining Operations Safety. Rinker Materials, Florida Rock Industries, Tarmac America, Thomas Concrete of Georgia, Blue Circle Williams Brothers, and RMC Allied Materials all were among the first companies to order custom Ready Mixed Concrete Driver Training Safety Video Programs. Subsequently, demand for safety training in other product lines were commissioned by these companies.

It was out of this experience, that Mitchell developed a passion for working on location beside line workers at the job in ready mixed concrete, surface mining, cement production, concrete products production, chemicals plants and the construction industry. His vision was to make every worker realize they are a vital component in the company safety culture program and that their health and safety are of utmost importance. That vision can be summed up this way: “The most important thing you will do today is to return home safely to your family and friends.”

Mitchell received his B.A. in Mass Communications from Florida State University and subsequently worked 10 years as a television news reporter/anchor in Mobile, AL, Montgomery, AL, New Orleans, LA, and Tallahassee, FL.

Mitchell brings a distinct advantage to every video production because he writes all scripts, shoots all in the field video, narrates the program, and then edits-produces the final product. He knows what to do and provides the solution to your safety training and in some cases product marketing goals. One man. One contact. One producer. One solution.
